Dear Reader,
There are many things that a teacher must consider when they are working with students to improve their writing. Students often have the hardest time getting started with a piece of writing simply because they don’t know what to write about. As teachers, we must remember that it is our job to inspire and encourage our students to be successful creative writers from the start.
I began researching the importance of creative writing and how teachers can give their students the confidence to write descriptively and effectively. This is a difficult topic to tackle because there are so many different elements that play into creative writing in the classroom. At all different grade levels, creative writing is an important task to tackle. We must remember to provide our students with the tools necessary to build confidence in their writing and to write without boundaries.
I have learned many things from my inquiry such as how to create a positive writing environment, how to implement mentor texts into instruction and how to teach students to “show and not tell.” All of these aspects of writing come into play when teaching young writers. There are many elements, and they are all equally as important.
I hope that you will find this website helpful when implementing some of the tools into your classroom or when you try to enhance your creative writing skills yourself. I hope you will take my research and information and come up with your own questions and ideas about writing in order to benefit your students as well.
Sincerely,
Alle Neesham
